They easily corrected my error of providing the incorrect arrival address at booking and responded quickly with my questions. The moving team that delivered my furniture were friendly and kept me up to date on when they would arrive. And arrived when they said they would. They were careful with my belongings and moved everything to its place in my home.”

STRATEGIES TO PROTECT AND KEEP YOUR HOME COOL IN THE HEAT

Unfortunately, the temperature has yet to hit its summer peak and there’s quite a ways to go before the weather shows any signs of cooling again. Here are tips to keep your property from overheating:

Functional aesthetics. Landscaping and exterior paint.

Certain exterior features can not only improve your house’s curb appeal, but it can also serve functional purposes. If you’re updating the outside of your home, plan for long-term solutions to beat the heat. Dark colors attract and absorb heat, so you may want to paint your house a white or lighter color to reflect the sun and direct heat away.

In addition to paint color, landscaping can function on several levels, as well. Shade is a powerful protector from the long days of summer sun, especially in areas like Florida that are closer to the equator and have stronger UV rays. Consider planting trees around your house and yard that will provide larger shade coverage, keeping your property cooler.

And if you are currently selling or planning to sell, these refreshes can increase the value of your home.

Maintain your AC and adjust ceiling fans.

Maintenance is an easy way to prevent many house related problems that occur, but oftentimes these simple steps go forgotten or overlooked. Schedule routine maintenance appointments for your AC unit and make sure you are cleaning the unit often. By cleaning all vents and replacing filters regularly, you will prevent your AC unit clogging up from excess dust and dirt, which causes it to function at a lower capacity.

The same goes for fans; keep them clean and dust-free for optimal performance. Aside from a buildup of gunk, the direction a fan moves in does make a difference in air flow. You want fans blades spinning counterclockwise in summer. This creates a downdraft, which provides the feel of a cool breeze. Check their direction before the next spike in temperature and adjust accordingly for the season.

Equip your windows with the right shades.

Although replacing windows with modern, more energy efficient ones is a surefire way to ensure your house stays cool in the hotter months, it’s generally a costly improvement. If you aren’t ready for that expenditure right now, you can focus on buying and installing the correct shades to stave off the heat.

Blackout curtains, in addition to helping with daytime naps and sleeping in, block out any sunlight and will naturally cool rooms. Like how exterior paint colors have an effect on your house’s temperature, so does the color of the curtain linings you choose. Opt for light, reflective liners rather than dark, reflective ones.

You’ll also want to remember to pull shades down during the day or at the very least during the hottest point of the day.

Be aware of belongings that can be damaged by the higher temperatures.

You’ll want to coordinate timing for what you pack. Certain household items and belongings can suffer permanent damage from extreme heat and sun exposure. Check your things for any forgotten candies or gum, bring items like candles, records, and sensitive electronics last, and mark boxes that have belongings unsafe in the heat in them.

Ready your new home by setting up the A/C before you move in.

With all there is to do when it comes to moving, you can forget to do small things that make a world of difference. Though you may not be able to control the temperature much while moving out of your old place, if you have access to your new home, set up your A/C before you arrive; that way you’ll be able to cool down once there and heat sensitive belongings are safe to bring inside
